1.�� How big are Iridium satellite phones/pagers?

Iridium 9505A satellite phone: 6.25" H x 2.5" W x 2.25" D (with antenna folded down). The Iridium 9505A antenna is 6.25" H.

Iridium 9500 satellite phone: 7.5" H x 2.5" W x 2.75" D (with antenna folded down). The Iridium 9500 antenna is 7.5" H.

Iridium Satellite pager: 3" H x 2.85" W x 0.9" D

2.�� How much do Iridium satellite phones/pagers weigh?

Iridium 9505A satellite phone: 10.8 ounces (375 grams)

Iridium 9500 satellite phone: 14.4 ounces (454 grams)

Iridium Satellite Pager: 4.2 ounces (119 grams)

3.�� Which satellite rental phone kit is right for me?

Iridium 9505A satellite phone: Recommended for heavy use, business calls. Optimal voice quality, signal strength, and size

Iridium 9500 satellite phone: Recommended for light use, emergency only. Great as backup to other forms of communication or as option for people contact you in case of emergency

4.�� Should I rent a satellite phone or buy a satellite phone?

Iridium 9505A satellite phone: If you plan to rent the phone for more than 5 months and intend to use airtime, FSC suggests you consider purchasing rather than renting, as rental fees will sum close to the purchase of a new satellite phone.

5.�� What is the battery life for an Iridium satellite phone/pager?

Satellite Phone:
The average talk time is about 3 hours while the phone can be on standby for almost 30 hours.

Satellite Pager:
The satellite pager uses one AA battery and should last for up to one month.

6.�� Does temperature affect the life of a battery?

Yes, exposure to extreme heat or extreme cold will shorten the life of a lithium-ion battery.

7.�� Does weather affect my ability to use a satellite rental phone/pager?

No, the weather will not interfere with a call to the satellite system. However, the weather can affect the transmission from the satellite to the ground station.

8.�� Are Iridium satellite phones water-resistant?

No. Iridium Satellite phones should be kept out of the rain and not exposed to or submerged in water. Waterproof bags are available for the 9505A rental phone.

9.�� Who manufactures Iridium satellite phones/pagers?

Iridium is responsible for all current manufacturing of Iridium handheld satellite phones via Celestica.
